Alexander served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-25C #41-12982, 90th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group, Light, :U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Stearns County, Minnesota prior to the war.

B-25C #41-12982 took off from Port Moresby, National Capital District, Papua New Guinea on a bombing mission attacking anti-aircraft installations at Buna, Oro Province, Papua New Guinea.

Over the target, this B-25 sustained a direct hit on the wing, causing it to catch fire and crash near the shoreline. 1st Lt. Lindsay & S/Sgt Hill were able to parachute out however they were never seen again.

Alexander was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

"Born 7 April 1920 in Oak (Township) of Stearns County, MN; Alexander was the sixth of ten children (eight sons & two daughters) born to Alexander Jacob & Gertrude (Madden) Baggenstoss Sr. Called into service on 30 October 1941 with 11 other Stearns County soldiers, on 16 November 1942, Alexander died in Manila in the Philippines from wounds sustained in combat; he is buried on foreign soil at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial. Awarded the Purple Heart."
