He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on August 15, 1941, prior to the war, at MacDill Field, Florida. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Actor and also as Single, without dependents.
Olin was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24, which took off from 5-Mile (Ward) near Port Moresby on an armed reconnaissance mission over Wewak, was believed to have failed to turn a proper course back to base and was lost at sea during the war.
He was awarded a "Silver Star" and the Purple Heart.
