William, who resided in Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Water Tender Second Class withthe U.S.S. Hoel (DD-553), U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was declared "Missing In Action" when the Hoel was attacked and sunk by enemy action during a battle of Samar Island near Leyte.
He had served in the Navy for three years and five months at the time of his death and was decorated with a Purple Heart.
