Son of Walter A. Smyth and Ruth Van Atta Smyth.

Husband of Annie Lou Keithley Smyth.

Jack, who resided at 605 River Road, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade and boat officer with the destroyer U.S.S. Duncan (DD-485), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was declared "Missing In Action" in the battle off Cape Esperance during the war when the Duncan was sunk.

He had served in the Navy for eight months at the time of his death and was decorated with the Navy-Marine Corps Medal and a Purple Heart.
