He "Died of Starvation" while a Japanese POW after the fall of Bataan on a prison ship off the coast of Formosa during the war.
He had served in the Army for twenty-two years at the time of his death and was decorated with the "Legion of Merit", "Bronze Star", Purple Heart and the Prisoner Of War Medal.
