B-24D #41-24219 took off, with a crew of 10, from Port Moresby, National Capital District, Papua New Guinea on a bombing mission over Rabaul, East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea.
Over Rabaul they were attacked by Japanese fighter aircraft and shot down. They crashed near Rabaul.
In late 1944 the crash site was located by the U.S. military and the entire crew was first interred in the USAF Cemetery at Soputa, Oro Province, Papua New Guinea on December 18, 1944. They were all later re-interred in various locations.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
