Charles, who resided at 108 East Twenty-Third Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as an Ensign with the U.S.S. Cowpens (CVL-25), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was "Killed In Action" when his plane crashed on the flight deck of the Cowpens after returning from a mission in the Asiatic Area.

He had served in the Navy for two years and three months at the time of his death and was awarded a Purple Heart.

He was buried at sea.

Husband of Gloria Jean Shelley Norton.
