Prior to the war Edmund was employed at the National Vulcanized Fiber Company in Wilmington, Delaware.
Edmund was "Killed In Action" when the Belleau Wood was hit by a Japanese kamikaze plane off Leyete which fell on her flight deck aft, causing fires which set off ammunition during the war. 92 men had either died or gone missing in this attack. The Belleau Wood survived the attack and the war.
He had served in the Navy for one year and ten months at the time of his death.
He was decorated with the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
His remains were buried at sea.
