Robert, who resided in Georgetown, Delaware, served as a Gunner's Mate Second Class with the U.S.S. Spence (DD-512), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was "Lost At Sea" in the western Pacific when the Spence disappeared during a Typhoon near the Philippine Islands.

He had served in the Navy for two years and four months at the time of his death.

Service # 6510499

Robert was the only Delawarean lost on the Spence.

Son of Joseph Burton Marvel and Elizabeth B. Hudson Marvel.
