B-25J #43-36012 took off, with a crew of 6, from Tacloban Airfield, Leyte, Philippines on a strike mission over Lingayen Gulf, Luzon, Philippines.
Another airmen, 2nd Lt. Melvin R. Bell, reported that they were last seen heading into a cloud bank and that soon after there was an explosion that lit up the sky. It was believed that it was B-25J #43-36012 crashing.
It was later discovered that they had crashed in the northern part of Mindoro Island. The entire crew was lost.
Robert was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
