Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until March 15, 1946

Husband of Edith Ivey who resided in Georgia.

Josie served as a Technical Sergeant & Engineer / Gunner on B-24J #44-40947, 72nd Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Dade County, Florida prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 20, 1943 at Camp Blanding, Florida. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Mechanic and also as Married.

B-24J #44-40947 took off from Pitu Airfield (APO 719) on Morotai, North Maluku Province, Indonesia on an armed search for enemy shipping off Borneo. After take off, nothing was ever heard from the bomber again. It is unknown if this B-24 was lost due to bad weather, mechanical failure or enemy action.

Josie was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
