He resided in Yell County, Arkansas prior to the war.

B-24M #44-41809, while on a mission, ran low on fuel due to adverse weather conditions and had to ditch into the sea during the war.

Wilbur was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war. He was the only member of the crew of this B-24 that was lost.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

Wilbur also has a "Cenotaph" in the Havana Cemetery, Havana, Arkansas.
