Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until February 15, 1946.

Charles served as a Staff Sergeant & Engineer on B-24J #42-100394, 26th Bomber Squadron, 11th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Muskegon County, Michigan prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 4, 1941, prior to the war, in Detroit, Michigan. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-100394 took off from Eniwetok Airfield, Marshall Islands on a night bombing mission over Truk Islands. During the mission this B-24 was seen on fire and is believed to have been hit by ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed. The entire crew was lost in this crash during the war.

Charles was declared "Missing In Action".

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

Charles also has a "Cenotaph" in the Laketon Township Cemetery, North Muskegon, Michigan with his parents.
