William served as a Second Lieutenant & Pilot on a B-24 (# unknown ), 320th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cook County, Illinois prior to the war.

The B-24 that he was on was last seen by others to explode right before it crashed into the sea. Cause is currently unknown and the entire crew perished.

William was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
