C-47 #41-38631 took off from Dobodura, Oro Province Papua New Guinea on a mission to the 5 Mile Drome (Ward Drome) National Capital District, Papua New Guinea. Soon after takeoff they were attacked by Japanese Zeros and shot down near Dobodura. C-47 #41-38601 was also shot down more than likely by the same Zeros either on the same day or the day after.
Marvin was "Killed In Action" on this flight during the war.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.
