Navy records show that Harry was buried at sea by administrative decision. The headstone cross at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila, is a marker for him. On 1 Apr 1948 the Government of the Philippines granted permission to the US to establish a memorial cemetery on part of the former US reservation of Fort William McKinley to replace all temporary cemeteries.

Harry was killed in action while serving onboard the USS Intrepid CV11 as an ART1, Aviation Radio Technician First Class, pay grade E6. ARTs perform maintenance on aviation communications equipment. On 25 Nov 1944, shortly after noon, during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, a heavy force of Japanese aircraft struck back at the US Carriers. Within five minutes, two kamikazes crashed into the Intrepid killing six officers and fifty-nine crew. Actual report from Air Group 18 states "sixty were dead, fifteen missing, and about one hundred wounded." Intrepid never lost propulsion or left her station in the task group and in less than two hours extinguished the last blaze. The morning of the 26th the Intrepid left station and proceed to San Francisco for repairs, arriving on 20 Dec
