Hyman served as a Private First Class & Radio Operator on B-26 #40-1419, 2nd Bomber Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

Hyman was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-26 developed engine trouble on a training flight from Port Moresby to Garbutt Field, Australia and ditched in the Coral Sea during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
