Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until December 17, 1945.

Son of Mrs. Rose Kachigian who resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Charles served as a Technical Sergeant & Engineer / Gunner on B-17F "Fighting Swede" #41-24520, 63rd Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on August 26, 1939 prior to the war. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the amusement occcupation.

B-17F #41-24520 took off from Jackson Drome, Central Province, Papua New Guinea on a reconnaissance mission over Madang Province, Papua New Guinea.

They later reported, via radio, that they were 50 miles north of Madang Province. They were not heard from and did not return to base. The entire crew of 10 was lost on this mission.

Charles was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart.
