Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 27, 1946.

Richard served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-25D #41-30040, 498th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

B-25D #41-30040 took off, with a crew of 7 & other B-25's, from Nadzab Airfield, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea on a bombing mission over Dagua Airfield, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea.

After a bombing run they were seen entering a cloud and were not seen nor heard from again. The entire crew was lost.

Richard was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
