Robert served as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot on B-25D "Hell's Belles" #41-30019, 499th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 3, 1943 in Miami Beach, Florida. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Married.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-25, while on a mission to bomb and strafe Jefman Airfield, was hit by enemy anti-aircraft flak and crashed into the sea off Jefman Island during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
