*Missing in Action (MIA) 2 Jul 1944 - Killed in Action (KIA) 3 July 1945*

Seaman 1st class Richard John Petersen was stationed aboard the Liberty vessel "Jean Nicolet", which was torpedoed & sunk by a Japanese submarine, South of the Maldive Islands. He was taken aboard the sub, where he was killed on 2 Jul 1944. He is on the "Tablets of the Missing" at the "Manila American Cemetery and Memorial" on the grounds of "Fort Bonifacio", formerly "Fort William McKinley" in Taguig City, Manila, Philliphines.
