Carl served as a First Lieutenant & Navigator on B-24J #42-110051, 320th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Lorain County, Ohio prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 29, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in a machine shop and also as Single, without dependents.

Carl was married sometime after his enlistment.

B-24J #42-110051, during takeoff from Nadzab, Papua New Guinea, had its No. 2 engine catch on fire. The left wing caught the ground and the B-24 cartwheeled and exploded on impact. The entire crew was lost in the crash.

Carl was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
