Robert served as a Technical Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-24D "Miss Deed" #42-72814, 321st Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cuyahoga County, Ohio prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on May 22, 1942 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Machinist and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24D #42-72814 took off from Horanda No. 4 (Dobodura No. 4) near Dobodura on a weather reconnaissance mission over Rabaul and never returned to base during the war.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission.

He was awarded the "Silver Star", Air Medal, and the Purple Heart.
