Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until February 15, 1946.

Ross served as a Staff Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-24J #42-100394, 26th Bomber Squadron, 11th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Brown County, Kansas prior to the war.

B-24J #42-100394 took off from Eniwetok Airfield, Marshall Islands on a night bombing mission over Truk Islands. During the mission this B-24 was seen on fire and is believed to have been hit by ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed. The entire crew was lost in this crash during the war.

Ross was declared "Missing In Action".

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
