Aviation cadet Russell W. Rowe, route 4, Delphi, has reported to the Air Corps training detachment at Thunderbird Field, Glandale (sic), Ariz., for his first instruction in flying. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rowe and attended Purdue university.

Missing In Action - Lieut. Russell W Rowe of Delhi has been missing in action in the Pacific area since Feb. 13, the parents, Mr and Mrs John Rowe of south of Delphi, have been notified by the War Department. Lieut. Rowe, who graduated from Chalmers High School and attended Purdue, recently was awarded the air medal for participation in a long over-water bombing raid against Japanese-held Wake Island.

Officer is Dead
Delphi, Ind., Sept. 23. - (special) - Official notification of the death of their son, Lieut. Russell W. Rowe, pilot of a B-24 bomber in the South Pacific area, has been received from the War Department by Mr. and Mrs. John Rowe of near Delphi. Previously he had been listed as missing in action. The War Department now reports him killed in action on Feb. 13, 1943. Born near Otterbein, he attended Purdue University and before enlisting was sales manager for the northern section of the state for a Chicago dairy equipment company. A brother and sister survive besides the parents.
