U.S. Army Air Force Corporal Joseph Ransdell served with the 58th Squadron, 375th Troop Carrier Group, during World War II.

Prior to the war, Joe resided in Harlan County, Kentucky. He enlisted in the Army on January 19, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio. When he was assigned Service # 35794488, Joe was working miscellaneous jobs and listed as Single, without dependents.

Cpl Ransdell was a passenger on C-47A #42-23500 when it took off from North Borio Airfield (Oro Province, Papua New Guinea) on a return trip to 5 Mile Drome (National Capital District, Papua New Guinea). After takeoff, they were not seen nor heard from again. All onboard were lost.

Joe was declared Missing In Action. His family later had a memorial marker placed in the Lexington Cemetery (Lexington, Kentucky) in hopes that one day he'd be returned (45241532).
