Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until December 17, 1945.

Son of Bernard Parker who resided in Topeka, Kansas.

Bernard served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-17F "Fighting Swede" #41-24520, 63rd Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Sedgwick County, Kansas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 14, 1941, prior to the war, in Wichita, Kansas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a meatcutter and also as Single, without dependents.

B-17F #41-24520 took off from Jackson Drome, Central Province, Papua New Guinea on a reconnaissance mission over Madang Province, Papua New Guinea.

They later reported, via radio, that they were 50 miles north of Madang Province. They were not heard from and did not return to base. The entire crew of 10 was lost on this mission.

Bernard was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross" and the Purple Heart.
