Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until December 20, 1945.

Harvel served as a Staff Sergeant & Bombardier on B-25D "Lil De Icer" #41-29731, 90th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group, Light, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Vernon Parish, Louisiana prior to the war.

B-25D #41-29731 took off from 17-Mile Drome near Port Moresby on an armed reconnaissance flight to Gasmata, Lae, Buna and Hood Point. This bomber failed to return and there were no witnesses to the crash.

Harvel was declared "Missing In Action" on this flight during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
