Morris Leland Ashmead was a crew member of the cruiser the USS Houston that was sunk in the battle of Sundra Straights. Only 368 crew were rescued out of a crew of 1061 and those were made POW's until the end of the war. Morris lost his life March 1, 1942 when the Houston was sunk.
