In March 1940, he received orders directing him to serve overseas. By May 1940 is was with Headquarters Company, First Battalion, Fourth Marines, in Shanghai, China. He then was transferred to Company A and then again to Company B, First Battalion, Fourth Marines on the 8th of August 1940.
Seibert was promoted to Private First Class on 13 November, 1940. He moved with the rest of the Fourth Marines to the Philippines in late 1941 to help prepare defenses against the predicted Japanese attack. He was stationed at Olongapo and then after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor his unit was moved to Mariveles. By the end of December they were stationed on Corregidor to be part of the islands beach defenses. There they were housed in the Middleside Barracks.
PFC Seibert participated in the siege of Corregidor. The 1st Battalion had the east sector, from Malinta Hill to Hooker Point on the tail of the island. On the night of 05 May 1942, Japanese forces landed on the island and overwhelmed the garrison. He would have been involved in the thick of the fighting. General Jonathan Wainwright surrendered at 1200 hours the following day. Private First Class Seibert, with Company B, First Battalion, Fourth Marines was reported missing in action as of 06 May 1942. He does not appear on any POW lists. Jesse was officially declared dead as of 07 January 1946.
