Scheib joined the Marine Corps Reserve on April 29, 1937. He attended regular drills every week with the Thirteenth Battalion, Organized Marine Corps Reserve in Santa Monica. Robert Scheib was promoted to Private First Class in 1938, and to Corporal in July 1939. In November 1940, he transferred to active duty and became a member of India Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines. Scheib traveled to the Philippines in November 1941; he became a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines. He fought through the Philippine campaign, and participated in the siege of Corregidor. Corporal Scheib was killed on May 6, 1942, when the Japanese overran Corregidor. His exact fate is unknown.
