Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 12, 1946.

Roy served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on F-5A #42-12977, 17th Photographic Squadron, 4th Reconnaissance Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Alameda County, California prior to the war.

Roy took off from Henderson Field (Honiara Airport), Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands on a solo photographic and visual search over Kahili Airfield (Buin Airfield), Bougainville Province, Papua New Guinea. After takeoff he was not seen or heard from again.

Roy was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
