Matthew's remains were recovered in 1999 and he is now interred in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

Matthew served as a Technical Sergeant & Crew Chief on B-25H #43-4915, 718th Army Air Force Base Unit, U.S. Army Air Force.

Matthew was normally assigned to the 68th Airways and Communications Service Group but was assigned to this mission as a Crew Chief.

He resided in Los Angeles County, California prior to World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on October 21, 1942 in Los Angeles, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Bookkeeper and/or cashier and also as Married.

B-25H #43-4915 took off, after World War II was over with a crew of 3 and 5 passengers, from Townsville, Queensland Australia on an administrative mission to Biak Island, Papua Province, Indonesia. They never reached their destination.

B-25H #43-4915 was not found until the mid 1990's and they had crashed near Timkua, Dutch New Guinea, Indonesia.

Matthew was first declared "Missing" and his status was later changed to "Killed in the "Line Of Duty" once his remains were recovered.
