Willford Hyman was a 1924 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. LCDR Hyman was the Commanding Officer of the USS Sims (DD-409) when sunk during the Battle of the Coral Sea. He ordered abandon ship, but remained on the bridge and went down with the USS Sims. The USS Sims was sunk May 7, 1942.
