Palm Springs Boy Gives His Life For Country in Battle:
The war was brought closer to Palm Springs this week with word that Richard Gill, widely known here and a resident of the Village for five years prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corp last December, had been killed in action in the warfare in the South Pacific.
Word of the war casualty was received by his mother, Mrs. Frona Gill, from government authorities on December 23, two days before Christmas.
Richard Gill, who enlisted with the Marines on December 14, 1941, when but 19 years of age, was 20 years of age. During his service with the Marines he won several marksmanship medals and other service awards.
Mrs. Gill last received a letter from her son, who was then in the Solomon Islands, on October 28.
