Adrian left Williams College in his junior year to enlist. In the summer of 1944, he became engaged, but died in action in early April 1945 over Mindoro, Philippines as a gunner in the Jolly Rogers Group of the 5th Air Force.
According to the American Battle Monuments Commission, he was a Staff Sergeant with the 400th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy. He is listed as missing in action and is memorialized on the Walls of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery.
A cenotaph was placed in Vale Cemetery (Schenectady, NY) in memory of Adrian Van Voast Tapscott. It is located in the Van Voast family plot, next to the gravestones of his parents and can be found at:
