Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until December 17, 1945.

John served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on F-5A #42-12967, 17th Photographic Squadron, 4th Reconnaissance Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Saratoga County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 31, 1941, prior to the war, in Albany, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Actor and also as Single, without dependents.

John took off from Fighter 2 (Kukum Field), Guadalcanal Province, Solomon Islands on a solo photographic and visual search over Kahili Airfield (Buin Airfield), Bougainville Province, Papua New Guinea. After takeoff he was not seen or heard from again.

John was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
