Richard served as a Captain & Pilot on B-24J #44-40932, 72nd Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on June 7, 1941, prior to the war, in Buffalo, New York. He was noted as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

Richard was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24 did not return to base after a mission during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
