Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 12, 1946.

Son of Eugene J. Krisher.

Elwood served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on a P-38G, 80th Fighter Squadron, 8th Fighter Group, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Conesus, Livingston County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on July 17, 1941, prior to the war, in Rochester, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

Elwood took off from 3-Mile Drome, National Capital District, Papua New Guinea on a mission, along with 15 other P-38's, to provide close escort for B-25's that were on a mission over Dagua, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea.

Elwood, along with two other P-38 pilots, never returned to base.

Elwood was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster", Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart.
