Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 27, 1946.

Robert served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on A-20G #42-54102, 8th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group, Light, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Lewis County, New York prior to the war.

A-20G #42-54102 took off from Lae (APO 713), Morobe Province, New Guinea on a bombing mission over Yalau Plantation, New Guinea. They were not heard from or seen again after takeoff.

It was noted that there were extreme thunderstorms in the area which caused some of the other A-20G's to return to base prior to the attack. They are believed to have crashed due to the weather. The entire crew of 3 were lost.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He and was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
