Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until December 10, 1945.

Son of Mrs. Marion A. Hill who resided in Utica, New York.

John served as a Staff Sergeant & Togglier (Bombardier) on B-25C #41-12982, 90th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group, Light, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Oneida County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 19, 1942 in Utica, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents.

B-25C #41-12982 took off from Port Moresby, National Capital District, Papua New Guinea on a bombing mission attacking anti-aircraft installations at Buna, Oro Province, Papua New Guinea.

Over the target, this B-25 sustained a direct hit on the wing, causing it to catch fire and crash near the shoreline. 1st Lt. Lindsay & S/Sgt Hill were able to parachute out however they were never seen again.

John was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
