Robert served as a Second Lieutenant & Pilot on B-25D #41-30433, 405th Bomber Squadron, 38th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kings County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 1, 1942 in New York City, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Bookkeeper and/or cashier and also as Single, without dependents.

B-25D #41-30433 took off, with a crew of 5, from Durand Airfield, National Capital District, Papua New Guinea on a strike mission on shipping in Simpson Harbor near Rabaul, East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea.

After a successful mission they were noticed to have smoke coming from their left engine. They were then attacked by a Japanese Zero and eventually shot down and crashed in Simpson Harbor close to a Japanese destroyer during the war.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission.

He was awarded the "Silver Star" and the Purple Heart.
