Joseph served as a Technical Sergeant, 319th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on January 14, 1943 in Syracuse, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a routemen and also as Married.

He was a Passenger on B-24J #44-40405, 320th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force.

B-24J #44-40405 took off, with a crew of 5 and 5 passengers, from McGuire Air Field, Mindoro, Philippine Islands on a ferrying mission to Biak Island, Papua New Guinea.

After takeoff this B-24 was never seen or heard from again and are believed to have crashed into the sea.

Joseph was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He had previously been awarded an Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.
