Glenn served as a Second Lieutenant on C-47 #42-92829, 6th Squadron, 374th Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided at 4 Alonzo Street, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 12, 1942 in Rochester, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.

C-47 #42-92829, due to engine trouble, had to make a crash landing at sea during the war.

Glenn, being unable to swim, was assisted by other crew members. However while trying to get into the life raft, while being assisted, he was pulled under by the current from the sinking C-47. He was declared "Missing In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" during the war.

His remains were not recovered.

A troop carrier Pilot, Second Lt. Glenn M. BUTLER, 22, has been officially reported dead, his mother, Mrs. Julia Butler, 4 Alonzo St., has learned. He previously had been missing over Lae, New Guinea, since June 27. Lt. Butler enlisted in August, 1942, won his wings in May, 1943, at Dothan, Alabama. He had been overseas a little more than a month when he was killed. He was a graduate of Wellsboro (PA.) High and a former employee of the Rochester Telephone Company. He leaves besides his mother, his father, Earl Butler, of Wellsboro, and four sisters, Gladys, Vivian, Betty, and Virginia, all of the Alonzo Street address.
