James served as a First Sergeant, 803rd Engineer Battalion, Aviation, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 25, 1941, prior to the war, in Syracuse, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

He became a POW of the Japanese Army in the "Fall Of The Philippines" in May, 1942.

James was "Executed While A POW" of the Japanese Army at Fort Santiago, (aka Bilibid POW Camp) Manila in the Philippines during the war.

He was awarded the Prisoner Of War Medal and the Purple Heart.

His remains were not recovered.
