Ernest served as a Second Lieutenant on B-25D #41-30042, 499th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 12, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a sheet metal worker and also as Single, without dependents.

Ernest was declared "Missing In Action" during the war. He was awarded a Air Medal and a Purple Heart.
