Wirt served as a First Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-25D Mitchell (#41-30573), 2nd Bomber Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Bexar County, Texas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 12, 1941, prior to the war, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Actor and also as Single, without dependents.

Wirt died in the "Line Of Duty" when his B-25 was involved in a mid-air collision with another B-25 over the Dohudura airfield, New Guinea, during formation training and the twin engined medium bomber tumbled to earth, claiming the lives of all seven aboard.

The other B-25 landed without casualties.
