Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 21, 1946.

John served as a Staff Sergeant on B-24D #41-24017, 400th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Bosque County, Texas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 19, 1942 in Dallas, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents.

John was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24, which took off from 5-Mile (Ward) near Port Moresby on an armed reconnaissance mission over Wewak, was believed to have failed to turn a proper course back to base and was lost at sea during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
