Turning back due to bad weather, LT(jg) Stack followed by LT(jg) Brown ran into a front North of New Georgia and turned back to point 20 miles West of the Russells before turning up to Santa Isabel Island. This all at an altitude of about 1000 feet. They then proceed East along the South shore of Santa Isabel Island to Cape Vikanara and down towards Tulagi gaining more altitude until 2500 feet. All this time LT(jg) Brown could hear LT(jg) Stack but could not transmit himself. Just prior to reaching the area over Tulagi LT(jg) Stack lost contact with LT(jg) Brown and never saw him after that. LT(jg) Stack contacted a surface craft at Tulagi circling overhead all the time. He finally got a weather report on conditions at Henderson Field and returned home at 0338. Searching craft we unable to locate LT(jg) Brown or crew consisting of his radioman and gunner.
