Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until July 15, 1946

Son of Fred G. Bailes who resided in California.

Keith served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24J #44-40947, 72nd Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Texas prior to the war.

B-24J #44-40947 took off from Pitu Airfield (APO 719) on Morotai, North Maluku Province, Indonesia on an armed search for enemy shipping off Borneo. After take off, nothing was ever heard from the bomber again. It is unknown if this B-24 was lost due to bad weather, mechanical failure or enemy action.

Keith was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
